Sapsuckers Present HUMBIRD

The Commons, 401 E Jefferson St , Viroqua

www.humbirdmusic.com Combining a wintry longing with the warmth of a familiar folktale, Humbird stretches between experimental folk and environmental Americana to embrace the unexpected. This music invites a refreshing dissonance into the house, it leaves bread crumbs along the path and reflects light back at the stars. Humbird’s debut album Pharmakon (Aug. 2019) is a “...an absolutely hypnotic listening experience” according to Folk Alley. Atwood Magazine describes it as music wrapped in “gentle rebellion”.

Sapsuckers Present HEMMA

The Commons, 401 E Jefferson St , Viroqua

www.hemmasong.com Hemma comes from a family of singers and has spent the last decade carving her own path as a troubadour in the country and folk tradition. Sometimes with a full band, many times a soloist, Hemma captivates the audience as she paints with a pastoral brush passed down from artists like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. The band is back in the studio this winter with producer Sean Carey in her native Eau Claire for a follow-up LP to her 2019 EP Tomorrow River.

About the venue

The Commons (formerly The Ark) was one of the original churches built in the town of Viroqua. Constructed long before the advent of amplified sound, the unique, bowl-shaped chapel is an acoustic gem, offering a spectacular, one-of-a-kind listening room experience.

Today, the non-profit arts space is a welcoming, supportive, inspiring and affordable space for the Viroqua Area community, hosting numerous theater, music, dance, art, education and community events, weekly gatherings, workshops, classes, etc.

About the hosts

With an eclectic style that ranges from hillbilly roots to Nashville pop, the songwriting team of Nikki Grossman and Joe Hart has developed a lively, contemporary take on country music. Their creative lyrics, catchy melodies, and clever stage show have earned them a growing fanbase in the Midwest and beyond. In recent years, the duo has expanded to include a backing band of up to four additional musicians.
